Solitude and Dust

Relaxed drive in beautiful country, the road all to myself....
Just bliss!

And no radio reception, not even Bible radio ... what a blessing!  Or that rabid right wing 'talk' radio...
The dial here is filled with both these sorts of programming, both of them yakking in what I can only call a 'haranguing' tone of voice.  Not quiet and considered and discussing, but close to shouting and angry-sounding.  And it goes on and on and on without a let up.  Always hammering on one of their pet topics, and always only one narrow viewpoint with no consideration for the wider picture.  It's pretty much brainwashing, but I expect that the only ones listening are already of that narrow opinion, so it's not making new converts.....  NPR (National Public Radio) does have some excellent balanced programming, but not nearly as many powerful stations.....

Now in northern Nevada.
Found a turn-off into a really remote area of the Sheldon Wildlife Reserve,
and decided to use it for an unusual access to the Black Rock Desert to the south.

Narrow, sometimes rough tracks, just like I love to explore,
but not really with a trailer in tow.
Only met one other vehicle all day.
Lots of dust.....

This much dust it turned out......
I didn't realize that the trailer was sucking in as much dust as this....
And really difficult dust, electrostatic in that dry atmosphere,
so it clings to surfaces and you can't just brush it off.....
I brushed as much off the windshield as I could, but visibility still wasn't real good...
Then backed the aircraft up to the open trailer and tried to blow the dust out with the prop blast.
It make some difference, but was still a real mess in there...

This is Cedarville airstrip, now in California.
Some really interesting dry lake beds right near,
but visibility through the dusty windshield, with sun low in the sky,
couldn't go exploring.....

Packed up again just in time to dash into town and back before really dark,
cause my headlights still don't work....
The tall, cold 24oz Bud did wonders to wash down that dust!
